Project Overview

The Nikkei Test is one of Japan's most recognized economic literacy assessments. Over 6 months, I was responsible for front-end updates to the exam information and terms pages each exam cycle, editing EJS templates and Sass stylesheets directly on a live, high-traffic national platform with no CMS.

My Contribution
  • EJS & Sass Updates: Edited EJS templates and Sass stylesheets directly to reflect each exam cycle's schedule, dates, and terms,no CMS, no staging buffer. Changes went straight to the live site, requiring precision on every update.
  • Brand Accuracy: Applied every update in strict alignment with Nikkei's established design system and brand guidelines, ensuring the exam pages always met the visual standard expected of one of Japan's most trusted media brands.
  • Zero-Error Production Process: With no CMS and no staging environment, every change went directly to the live site. To maintain zero errors across 6 months, I followed a consistent personal process on every update: confirm the requirements are fully clear before starting, test every change, and do a full visual review before pushing live. No exceptions. That process is why nothing ever broke.
Outcome

Every exam cycle went live on time with zero production errors. Because exam dates are fixed and publicly announced, late or inaccurate updates directly affect test-takers,making on-time delivery non-negotiable. Maintaining that standard across 6 months of cycles, editing EJS and Sass directly in production with no CMS, established a trusted working relationship with the web director.
